I started my career in catering at the age of 14...when employment laws were rather different!
After two years of being persuaded not to choose a career in catering, I choose to go to Bournemouth and Poole College of FE. I completed a three-year full-time study from basic to advanced professional cookery and cake artistry.
I entered a host of competitions, winning the National Egon Ronay student chef of the year.
I was fortunate to work in placements at world renowned ‘Claridge’s’ hotel and the famed ‘1 Lombard Street’. In addition to these placements I had a variety of jobs, gaining experience in all areas of the kitchen to gain sufficient knowledge to enable a future career in Education.
I then went into teaching at the legendary Hospitality and Catering department of Bournemouth and Poole College.
At first I was only going to be there for a couple of years, with the intention of moving to Australia, but the job got me! And it was there I was to stay for a decade!
I had many triumphs as a Chef Lecturer my most favourite was mentoring numerous students over the years in competitions nationally and in Germany. In addition to my role as a qualified Chef Lecturer, I am also a qualified Assessor, Quality Assurer and lead IQA.
Alongside my time at the college I set up this business – the cake agency, to keep me in touch with industry, customers and skills, as well as dipping in and out of free-lance chef work. Yes, I am a workaholic!
In 2015, I decided to leave the college to embark in a new challenge. Being self-employed!
I launched a selection of cake decorating classes Teamed with Cake Links, Christchurch.
